Campbell Community Canvass in Support of City Council Resolution vote in July
We have had a few practice runs - now it’s time to go out and use what we have learned to begin gathering information we will use with the Campbell City Council. A few weeks ago Campbell City Council initiated a discussion about whether to vote on a city resolution on corporate personhood. They decided to take a couple of months to learn more before they actually voted on this issue. (Good idea!!!) We have until July to conduct our polls, gather our data and collect signatures on our cards, which we will bring to the City Council hearing. We will practice and learn how to combine taking the poll with gathering signatures. I envision that we will only need to ask people to sign the card if they answer “yes” to question 10:
- Would you want your elected representatives to support the Move to Amend wording for the 28th Amendment to the Constitution?
So the signature gathering part should be straight-forward. We will also ask the people who sign if they would like to come out to the City Council meeting in July and be in the audience in support of the resolution. And we will get their contact information so we can call them when we find out when the vote is. I think it would be great if it were standing room only!!! So, come if you can! If you can’t make it Saturday, we will be doing this every Saturday in June to see how many signatures we can gather in one month and also see how many people we can get to commit to the City Council meeting in July. For information, go to the Community Canvass Project website: http://scc-mta.org/canvass See you on June 2nd!
